Dr. Isaac J. Powell

Urology

   
Dr. Powell received his M.D. degree from the Indiana University Medical School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1969. He then served his Internship at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, from 1969 to1970. He afterwards performed his Residency in General Surgery at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, from1970 to1971. He received his training in Urology at the Henry Ford Hospital, in Detroit, Michigan, from 1971 to1974, gaining precious specialist experience.

Dr. Powell currently holds the position of Associate Professor at the Department of Urology at the Wayne State University and Karmanos Cancer Institute. He also serves as Chief of Urology at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Detroit. His main areas of clinical interest are Urologic Oncology and cancer genetics.

Dr. Powell has a large research activity. He has recently completed a study, for the Southwest Oncology Group on neoadjuvant hormonal therapy for locally advanced prostate cancer. His research presently has as an aim to study the impact that prostate cancer has on African Americans. He is trying to find out which are the ethnic differences in the biology of prostate cancer. He is a main investigator of a national consortium of medical centers to recruit families to examine hereditary prostate cancer among African Americans.
