Dr. Richard J. Andrassy

Pediatric Surgery

   
Dr. Andrassy graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1972. He served his Internship at the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. He afterwards performed there his Residency in Surgery from 1973 to 1977. He then served a fellowship in Pediatric Surgery, from 1977 to 1980 at the Children's Hospital - University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California and a fellowship in Pediatric Surgical Oncology, from 1979 to 1980 at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, California. He is board certified in general and pediatric surgery, with a special interest in surgical oncology and non-cardiac chest surgery.

Dr. Andrassy currently serves as A.G. McNeese Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center. He is also chief of the Section of Pediatric Surgery at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. In addition, he has held the position of Professor of Surgery at Uniformed Services at the University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, from 1983 to present. He has served as Surgeon-In-Chief at the Hermann Hospital from 1995 to present.

He is one of only a few pediatric surgeons in the United States named to chair a surgery department. He is active on many boards. He is the author of almost 2.000 journal articles, over 250 abstracts, dozens of book chapters, and is co-author of the book, "Management of Pediatric Trauma". He was chosen to be listed in the 1996-1997 edition of "The Best Doctors in America, Central Region".
